The body of a 5-year-old girl who was swept into the ocean at California\u2019s Laguna Beach this week has been recovered, officials said Thursday. <\/p>\n

Police made a sighting 250 to 300 yards offshore of Christmas Cove during an early-morning aerial survey of the coastline Thursday, the Laguna Beach Marine Safety Department said. <\/p>\n

That sighting was one-quarter mile north of Treasure Island Beach, near where the child was hit by a wave and swept into rough surf Tuesday evening, according to police and the Coast Guard. <\/p>\n

Laguna Beach Marine Safety personnel recovered the girl with assistance from the Orange County Sheriff\u2019s Department Harbor Patrol.<\/p>\n

The child was positively identified by the Orange County Sheriff\u2019s Department coroner, and the victim\u2019s family has been notified.<\/p>\n

The 5-year-old was in the water with their mother and sibling when they got swept into the ocean during \u201cpowerful water conditions,\u201d Laguna Beach Marine Safety said Wednesday. The mother and one child were rescued by bystanders who immediately entered the water and search was staunched for the second child.<\/p>\n

The U.S. Coast Guard suspended the search Thursday after searching for more than 30 hours and covering more than 90 square miles.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, elevated surf conditions were reported in Laguna Beach, which can face swells up to 9 feet.<\/p>\n

Swells on Tuesday led to beach hazard warnings across Southern California, and high wave heights and rip currents, the National Weather Service warned.<\/p>\n
