Bruce Blakeman, the Republican nominee for governor of New York, on Thursday largely stood by his comments this week that Democratic congressional candidate Brad Lander would have been a camp guard in a Nazi concentration camp.<\/p>

In a Newsmax interview Wednesday, Blakeman called Lander, who won Tuesday\u2019s Democratic primary in New York\u2019s 10th Congressional District, antisemitic.<\/p>

\u201cEven though he\u2019s Jewish, this guy would be a camp guard in the concentration camp if he could,\u201d Blakeman said of Lander, New York City\u2019s former comptroller.<\/p>

Both Blakeman and Lander are Jewish.<\/p>

\u201cI don\u2019t know where Bruce Blakeman went to Hebrew school, but I was taught that \u2018Never Again!\u2019 means never again to anyone,\u201d Lander said in a statement. \u201cStanding up for Palestinian human rights doesn\u2019t make me any less proud to be Jewish, or any less serious about fighting antisemitism.\u201d<\/p>

Lander added that he thinks New Yorkers \u201cwill resoundingly reject Blakeman\u2019s far-right MAGA bigotry this November.\u201d<\/p>

President Donald Trump endorsed Blakeman last year. <\/p>

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, Blakeman\u2019s Democratic opponent in the November election, told NY1 that Blakeman\u2019s remark \u201cdisqualifies him from public office.\u201d<\/p>

\u201cEvery single time Bruce Blakeman opens up his mouth, he\u2019s simply auditioning for his next role in the Trump administration after he loses the election,\u201d she said.<\/p>

Blakeman\u2019s remarks were also condemned by J Street, a liberal pro-Israel group, which called his words \u201ccorrosive and wrong.\u201d<\/p>

\u201cNo amount of vitriolic language from Blakeman or others will erase the fact that a growing number of American Jews reject the false choice that fighting for Israel\u2019s future means abandoning the Palestinian people,\u201d the organization wrote on X.<\/p>

Blakeman said in a statement Thursday, \u201cMaybe camp guard was too strong, but certainly collaborator as Brad Lander turned his back on the Jewish community when he locked arms with the extremists who want to wipe Israel off the map.\u201d<\/p>
