MOSCOW \u2014 Russia\u2019s second city of St Petersburg and the surrounding Leningrad region came under a large Ukrainian drone attack overnight on Saturday, with a local port and oil infrastructure struck, Russian and Ukrainian authorities said.<\/p>\n

St Petersburg Governor Alexander \u2060Beglov said the city of 6 million \u200bhad \u2060been subjected to a \u201clarge-scale\u201d drone attack, with the city\u2019s oil terminal struck. He said there were no casualties and that \u2060the aftermath of the attack had been dealt with.<\/p>\n

Leningrad region \u200bGovernor \u2060Alexander Drozdenko said drones had struck \u200cthe port of Vysotsk, about 105 miles northwest of St Petersburg on the Baltic Sea. The port handles oil, grain, coal \u200cand liquefied natural gas.<\/p>\n

Drozdenko said 72 \u200cdrones had been shot down over the Leningrad region.<\/p>\n

In a post on Telegram, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said: \u201cUkraine\u2019s defence forces struck port oil infrastructure that generates revenue for \u2060Russia\u2019s war, and also hit Kronstadt, an important military target more than 850 km (528 miles) from Ukraine\u2019s state border.\u201d<\/p>\n

There was no information from Russia on a strike on Kronstadt, a major naval base close to St Petersburg that Ukraine hit in a previous attack on the city in June.<\/p>\n

Ukraine has intensified strikes on Russian energy infrastructure \u200cthis year, causing fuel shortages in parts of Russia.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere, the \u200bgovernor of Russia\u2019s Bryansk region, as well as the Russian-installed \u200cgovernor of Crimea, said \u2060that drone strikes had killed one person in each region, \u2060with several more wounded.<\/p>\n

South of St Petersburg, the governor of Pskov region said more than \u200c30 drones had been \u200bshot down overnight. He reported minor \u200cdamage and injuries, including to \u200ba factory in the town of Velikiye Luki. <\/p>\n
