U.S. President Donald Trump, speaking to Russian leader Vladimir Putin by telephone for nearly 90 minutes, offered to help find a solution \u2060to the Ukraine war, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said in comments made public early on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Ushakov said Trump made the offer during the call on Saturday, U.S. Independence Day, in the context of his participation next week at the NATO summit in Turkey.<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he also spoke to Trump.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe American president \u2060once again confirmed his readiness to work towards a \u200brapid \u2060end to the fighting and find solutions to overcome the crisis,\u201d Ushakov said of Trump\u2019s call with the Russian president.<\/p>\n

Ushakov, who described the conversation as \u201cbusiness-like and quite constructive,\u201d said \u2060Russia sought \u201ca political-diplomatic resolution of the conflict, with due account of Russia\u2019s fundamental approach.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump\u2019s past attempts to broker a peace between Russia and Ukraine have failed to bring about an agreement.<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

Ushakov accused Kyiv \u200band \u2060its European allies of \u201ccounting on extending and \u200ceven escalating the conflict, and on terrorism against civilians.\u201d<\/p>\n

He was referring to Ukraine\u2019s long-range strikes on Russian targets, mainly linked to the oil industry, which have triggered fuel shortages in several Russian \u200cregions.<\/p>\n

Ushakov said Putin \u201cdepicted the real situation on the battlefield where \u200cthe Russian armed forces are confidently advancing, liberating one locality after another.\u201d<\/p>\n

Russian commanders told Putin on Friday that Moscow\u2019s troops had captured the strategically important city of Kostiantynivka in eastern Ukraine\u2019s Donetsk region. On Saturday, Zelenskyy and Ukraine\u2019s General Staff dismissed that \u2060claim, saying Kyiv\u2019s forces still controlled the city.<\/p>\n

Russia has said any solution must include Moscow assuming full control over Ukraine\u2019s Donbas region.<\/p>\n

Ukraine rejects that assertion and Zelenskyy urged Putin last month to hold a one-on-one meeting with him, but the Kremlin leader refused.<\/p>\n

Ushakov quoted Trump as saying that Washington\u2019s envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, would keep trying to broker a settlement and were prepared to make another visit to Moscow. U.S. diplomatic efforts have virtually stalled as Washington \u200cis focused on the war with Iran.<\/p>\n

Ushakov said Putin expressed hope during the \u200bconversation that U.S. diplomatic efforts in the Iran conflict would \u201callow for mutually acceptable long-term solutions \u200cto be found on key issues of a \u2060settlement.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ushakov said Putin also reminded Trump that he had an open invitation to \u2060visit Moscow.<\/p>\n

Zelenskyy, writing on his Telegram account, described his conversation with the U.S. president as \u201cvery good,\u201d including a discussion on the \u200cwar\u2019s 746-mile front line.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere \u200bis a real prospect to end this war \u200cand American resolve will have a crucial meaning,\u201d \u200bhe said. Zelenskyy said he and Trump agreed to continue discussions at the NATO meeting.<\/p>\n

In his comments, Zelenskyy thanked the United States for its help throughout the conflict \u200band \u201cAmerican hearts\u201d \u200bwho thought \u2060of Ukraine\u2019s future and valued freedom throughout the world.<\/p>\n
