Critics see surveillance.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Society of St. Pius X &#8211; a rebel group of ultra-conservative \u200bCatholics &#8211; was excommunicated after four bishops were ordained without Pope Leo\u2019s approval \u200bon Wednesday. The group has been unrepentant over the schism with Rome, \u2060saying Leo had failed to hear their concerns.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\u201cThere will one day be another pope \u200bwho opens the door and welcomes us back. Just like Pope Benedict,\u201d Georg Kopf \u200bsaid at a mass held in the north-eastern Swiss town of Wil.<\/p>\n<p>Established in 1970, the group &#8211; which is based in Switzerland but has followers worldwide &#8211; accuses the Church of straying from the true \u200bfaith. It practices old-style Latin Mass and does not believe in formal dialogue \u200bwith non-Catholics.<\/p>\n<p>The group has endured a rupture with the Vatican before.
