Second lady Usha Vance gave birth Sunday to her fourth child, Vance\u2019s office announced on X. <\/p>

\u201cWe are excited to announce that our baby boy, Alec Neel Vance, was born this morning,\u201d the Vance family said in a statement. \u201cUsha and the baby are happy and healthy, and our kids are overjoyed to meet their little brother.\u201d<\/p>

Vance, 40, is the first woman since the 1870s to give birth while her husband is vice president. <\/p>

She and her husband, Vice President JD Vance, have three other young children, two boys and one girl, who are ages 4 to 9. <\/p>

While promoting his new book this year, Vance previously said it was unlikely that he would take parental leave once the baby arrived. The couple announced the pregnancy in January and said at the time that she was due in late July. <\/p>

In March, the vice president, who could run for president in 2028, said at a White House event in Michigan that he had to persuade his wife to have another child. <\/p>

\u201cI remember when we decided to run for vice president, I said, \u2018Honey, I really want to have a fourth kid.\u2019 And she said, \u2018Well, you can become vice president or you can have a fourth baby,\u2019\u201d Vance said. \u201cBut, ladies and gentlemen, I am persuasive, because I got both.\u201d<\/p>

In an interview with NBC News later that month, Usha Vance confirmed that he did convince her to have a fourth child, though she said that she had \u201cnever closed the door on that.\u201d<\/p>
