The man fatally shot by a police officer in Madison, Wisconsin, earlier this week has been identified. <\/p>\n

Corey Ruiz, who was in his 30s and a member of the Madison community, was killed Wednesday, officials said during a news conference Thursday. He was fatally shot after police said he pulled out a knife during a struggle with four officers.\u200b<\/p>\n

Madison\u2019s City Council President Sabrina Madison said Ruiz \u201chas a family who loves him. I believe Corey has a child.\u201d<\/p>\n

Efforts to reach Ruiz\u2019s family members were not immediately successful Thursday.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to be clear: It does not matter who you are or what your past is. You should not lose your life as a result of an encounter with law enforcement, that should not happen,\u201d Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway said Thursday, promising that the shooting will be \u201crigorously investigated.\u201d<\/p>\n
