Laura Loomer, an ardent ally of President Donald Trump with a reputation for incendiary far-right social media commentary, sat down with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Thursday after a dramatic turnaround on the war that could have political reverberations back in Washington.<\/p>\n

Loomer had spent years minimizing Russia\u2019s invasion of Ukraine and amplifying Russian propaganda to her nearly 2 million followers. This week she had a change of heart.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust experienced my first air raid in Ukraine. Sirens blaring. This is everyday for every Ukrainian,\u201d Loomer wrote on X during her visit to the country. \u201cI often said I don\u2019t care. Looking back, that wasn\u2019t very nice of me to say.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe need to have moral clarity,\u201d she added Thursday.<\/p>\n

It was a stunning reversal for a woman who had spent years criticizing U.S. support for Ukraine\u2019s defense, declaring it \u201ca country full of Nazi apologists\u201d \u2014 a claim used by Russia to justify its yearslong invasion \u2014 and \u201cled by a Jihadi apologist.\u201d<\/p>\n

The skepticism of Ukraine has been shared by other major conservative influencers, including former Fox News host Tucker Carlson. <\/p>\n

The issue became a major point of contention between more traditional Republicans, like former Vice President Mike Pence, and Trump\u2019s MAGA base. Vice President JD Vance was among the earliest and most vocal critics of continued U.S. military aid to the country, and he and Trump clashed with Zelenskyy in a heated Oval Office meeting.<\/p>\n

It was unclear what had prompted Loomer\u2019s trip or how she had arranged the meeting with Zelenskyy, which she plugged as an interview for her Rumble show, \u201cLoomer Unleashed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Loomer said in a post on X on Friday that Zelenskyy told her he would likely be in the United States next week for a meeting with Trump.<\/p>\n
