Jenna Ortega is opening up about the pressures she faced growing up in Hollywood, revealing that as a child actor she sometimes went entire days without asking for food or water because she feared being \u201cin the way.\u201d<\/p>\n

The \u201cWednesday\u201d star and former Disney Channel actor told Esquire in an interview posted Tuesday that she learned at a young age to make herself as unobtrusive as possible while working on set, a mindset she now recognizes that came at the expense of taking care of herself.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wasn\u2019t asking for a sip of water,\u201d she recalled. \u201cI would go all day without eating, drinking, whatever, because I wanted so badly to not be in the way of anybody.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMaybe that was my mistake, was not actually looking after myself,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Ortega also reflected on the perfectionism she developed early on in her career.<\/p>\n

\u201cI really had it going for me as a child \u2018cause I can\u2019t think of one mistake I made,\u201d Ortega said. \u201cI feel like I make mistakes now all the time, but as a child, I was so grateful and so excited to be there that my game face was on.\u201d<\/p>\n

Part of putting on that \u201cgame face\u201d was never asking for anything on set, Ortega explained.<\/p>\n

When asked about the stereotypes surrounding child stars, Ortega suggested there may be some truth behind them. \u201cIs it wrong to say that a lot of them are true?\u201d she said. \u201cAnd do with that what you will.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ortega\u2019s career began at just 7 years old, after she told her parents she wanted to become an actor. <\/p>\n

\u201cMy parents laughed at me when I told them that I wanted to do it, and then that was kind of the root of everything. The motivation,\u201d Ortega said. \u201cAnd I never really stopped, because I\u2019m very stubborn. And then I never questioned it.\u201d<\/p>\n

At 13, Ortega landed her breakout role in the Disney Channel series \u201cStuck in the Middle.\u201d Other notable appearances as a child actor include roles in \u201cRichie Rich\u201d and \u201cJane the Virgin.\u201d She\u2019s since become an international star thanks to the success of the \u201cWednesday\u201d series on Netflix and film roles in \u201cBeetlejuice Beetlejuice\u201d and the \u201cScream\u201d franchise. <\/p>\n
