ICE, the Padres and Major League Baseball did not immediately respond to requests for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Daniela Pirela said she spoke with her brother briefly but is not truly aware of the conditions he is living in while in detention.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s a very strong person and he tries not to worry us,\u201d she said. \u201cHe\u2019s going to say he\u2019s OK. That\u2019s what he said.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She said her brother is in the U.S. legally and sought asylum in 2014, when he first arrived in the country. Daniela Pirela said she doesn\u2019t know why his asylum case has taken so long to process.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\u201cHe did everything lawfully as the U.S. asks,\u201d she said. \u201cHe loves this country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Oswaldo Pirela has two U.S.-born daughters and lives outside Phoenix, Arizona, family members said on social media accounts verified by NBC News.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOswaldo, like me and other members of our family, was directly affected by persecution from the Venezuelan regime,\u201d brother Jorge Heli Pirela said on Instagram. \u201cWe came to the United States seeking safety through the legal process, applied for asylum through the proper channels, and have worked hard to build our lives and become contributing members of American society.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/trustedmovinggroups.com\/?p=4051\">Russia is shipping explosives to Iran to bolster its missile and drone arsenal in U.S. war<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Jorge Pirela did not immediately respond to a request for comment late Monday. <\/p>\n<p>On Instagram, he called Oswaldo \u201ca devoted father, a dedicated coach, an exceptional worker, and someone who has earned the respect of his coworkers, former managers, employers, players, and the communities he has been part of.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daniela Pirela said she believes her brother was targeted due to his active asylum case. \u201cThere isn\u2019t a reason why they detained him,\u201d she said. \u201cThey still haven\u2019t told us.\u201d<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>The social media posts are part of the family\u2019s rapid response to Pirela\u2019s detention. They\u2019ve publicly asked U.S. Rep. Abraham Hamadeh, D-Arizona, who represents Pirela\u2019s home district, to intervene.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for the congressman did not immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Relatives are hoping for his release and \u201cdue process,\u201d his brother said. Daniela Pirela said the family is seeking a lawyer to help them free him.<\/p>\n<p>Also speaking on Instagram, Pirela\u2019s mother, Naivy Dominguez, said, \u201cHe is being unjustly detained, even though his lawful history in this country can be documented.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She asked supporters to \u201cspeak up\u201d and \u201ctell the world who he truly is.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dominguez did not immediately respond to a request for comment. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Pirela was signed by the Texas Rangers in 2009 and remained with the organization for three years, playing multiple positions for the Dominican Summer League Rangers in the minors, according to Major League Baseball records.<\/p>\n<p>His mother said family members are awaiting his return to Arizona.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday, his daughters are waiting for their father to come home,\u201d she said. \u201cHis family is waiting for him.
