Actor Hugh Laurie apologized for roasting a journalist for her criticism of the medical drama \u201cHouse,\u201d the hit series which Laurie starred in.<\/p>\n

In a post Monday on X, Laurie told British journalist Janet Murray that he was \u201cvery slightly drunk and already upset about something that had nothing to do with you\u201d when he lashed out at her for saying that every episode of \u201cHouse\u201d was the same. <\/p>\n

The drama started over the weekend when Murray posted on X that she was watching \u201cHouse\u201d and said the series has the \u201csame narrative every episode.\u201d The show ran from 2004 to 2012. <\/p>\n

In response to Murray\u2019s criticism, Laurie wrote that they tried a couple of episodes where his character, Dr. Gregory House, got the patient\u2019s diagnosis correct the first time, \u201cbut they were only 6 minutes long.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cNBC weren\u2019t happy,\u201d he said. \u201cThen we tried some where House never gets it right and the patient dies. The audience wasn\u2019t happy.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cOne could apply your trenchant analysis to other art forms: JS Bach wrote 30 Goldberg variations on the same chord structure; Frida Kahlo painted 50 portraits of herself; Henry Moore, what?? The point is, or was, variations on a theme; if all you see is hospital, medical blah blah, then it wasn\u2019t meant for you,\u201d Laurie wrote. \u201cNonetheless, I look forward to your first novel!\u201d<\/p>\n

Murray wrote in an article for UnHerd that Laurie\u2019s response was funny and in character as Dr. House, but fans of the show quickly attacked her and called her names. <\/p>\n

Laurie apologized for fans \u201chaving a go at you because of my tweet.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cNot at all the plan. … If it\u2019s any comfort, I got it in the neck too,\u201d he wrote. \u201cI\u2019m a thin-skinned t—, apparently, even though it wasn\u2019t my skin. I was sticking up for the writers who I adored.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously I shouldn\u2019t have cited Bach\/Kahlo\/Moore \u2014 asking for trouble \u2014 and would have done better to go for the 10,000 blues songs written around the same 12 bar chord structure,\u201d Laurie wrote. \u201cI\u2019ve listened to most of them and will keep doing so. Because we love what we love.\u201d<\/p>\n
