Worker dies after going overboard from Princess cruise ship that left Fort Lauderdale

A crewmember has died after going overboard from a Princess cruise ship that left Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the company said Monday.

The crewmember from the Regal Princess, which left Fort Lauderdale’s Port Everglades on Saturday, had gone overboard near Cancún.

The company did not release the member’s identity.

“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the crew’s family and friends during this difficult time. Grief support services are being offered to guests and crew members affected by this event,” the company said in a statement.

The company also thanked local authorities and the crew of the Carnival Jubilee, who helped in the search-and-rescue efforts.

The Regal Princess resumed its voyage and departed the waters off Cancún, with the next stop Tuesday in Belize.

The seven-day cruise is expected to return to Fort Lauderdale as scheduled Saturday.
