Tony Romo ‘on leave’ from CBS Sports after arrest on suspicion of impaired driving in Wisconsin

CBS football analyst and former NFL quarterback Tony Romo is “on leave,” CBS Sports said Friday, a week after he was arrested in Milwaukee on suspicion of impaired driving.

It wasn’t immediately clear if the decision to go on leave was made by Romo or CBS Sports.

“Tony Romo is on leave from his role at CBS Sports until further notice,” the network said in a statement.

Romo was pulled over July 23 on southbound Interstate 43 at about 6:18 p.m. CT after he “performed poorly” on standardized field sobriety tests, according to Milwaukee County Sheriff’s records.

He was booked on one count of allegedly operating while intoxicated and released.

Romo is one-third of CBS’s top football team, which includes play-by-play man Jim Nantz and sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson.

The broadcaster was ordered to appear in court on Sept. 21, which would be the Monday night of the NFL’s Week 2. The top CBS matchup of Week 2 figures to be the Pittsburgh Steelers visiting the AFC -champion New England Patriots on Sept. 20.
