Police said the victims are two adults and a young child in the incident at Brown Bear Daycare in Hopkins, Minnesota, roughly 15 miles southwest of Minneapolis, according to police.

Hopkins Police Department Chief Brent Johnston said at a press conference that the two adults and the child are believed to be related. He said he did not know how young the child was, but suggested all of the seven children at the day care center on Wednesday were under the age of 5.

Johnston added that the incident was isolated and that authorities are still investigating a motive.

Police believe that one of the adults, a man who was found in the incident, was responsible for the two other deaths, the chief said.

Johnston said police were notified of the dead bodies when a parent arrived at the daycare center to drop their child off.

“This was one of those ones you’ll remember throughout your entire career, if not life,” Johnston said when asked by reporters about the scene of the crime.

Standing alongside Johnston, Hopkins Mayor Patrick Hanlon addressed reporters briefly and thanked authorities for their response to the incident.
