Sail4th 250 is set to present the largest maritime and aerial gathering in American history as tall ships, naval vessels and aircraft from 46 nations converge on New York Harbor. NBC will provide exclusive coverage of the historic event on July Fourth with a six-hour broadcast live from Governors Island.

The broadcast will showcase the International Parade of Sail in the Port of New York and New Jersey. The 16-mile parade will see 48 tall ships from 20 foreign nations travel from near Sandy Hook, New Jersey, up to the George Washington Bridge, saluting the Statue of Liberty along the way.

The event will also feature an International Aerial Review, where the Navy’s Blue Angels will lead 100-plus American and international aircraft flying overhead.

Another highlight will be the International Naval Review as over 50 U.S. and allied naval vessels are anchored along the Hudson River. One U.S. naval ship will travel south from the George Washington Bridge to honor the anchored vessels, marking just the seventh International Naval Review in American history.

“Sail4th 250 traces its heritage to the first Operation Sail in 1964, endorsed by President John F. Kennedy,” the Sail4th 250 website says. “Continuing to mark American milestones, New York hosted historic tall ship extravaganzas for the 1976 Bicentennial, the 1986 Statue of Liberty centennial, the Columbus Quincentennial in 1992, the Millennium celebration of 2000, and the Bicentennial of The Star-Spangled Banner in 2012.”

NBC will utilize dozens of cameras to capture the grand spectacle. Cameras will be positioned along both sides of the Hudson River, at iconic New York landmarks and on several ships. Aerial footage will also be provided via drones, the NBC New York helicopter and a blimp.
